DESCENT INTO MADNESS: Save a Medical Examiner from Her Private Hell in this Horror Game
Descent Into Madness is an indie game of psychological horror in first person produced by A Good Potato Games and published on January 13th of this year, on the "itch.io" platform. In the game, you control Calahan, a medical examiner who was preparing for another day at work. However, it ends up in a spiral of madness, where there is no way to discern what is real from what is not.
It is worth mentioning that the game has some inspirations from Brain on Fire, a kind of autobiography written by the journalist Susannah Calahan (which is not a mere coincidence here), where she tells about her struggles with a rare form of encephalitis and what she went through during this period, suffering from hallucinations, aggressive behavior, dementia, among other symptoms.
The game has good graphics, gameplay typical of indie games of the genre and of the same style but that fits within the proposal made here. The soundtrack consists of ambient sounds that manage to convey the horror and madness felt by the protagonist very well.
The game has some small defects, like the movement of the other characters (it could be much neater), the inventory is not interesting (you practically don't use it), some bugs here and there. Despite these defects, the game is quite interesting and worth a few minutes of your time as uncompromising fun.
