GHOSTLIGHT MELANCHOLIA: A Mystery Game About a Child, Four Persons and a Net of Evil Secrets
Ghostlight Melancholia is an indie first-person horror mystery adventure game being developed by Aarre Entertainment and set to be released this year's Halloween (October 31). A demo version, however, was published on May 16th, and is available on both Steam and itch.io. In Ghostlight Melancholia, you follow the story of three people: a park ranger, a crime story writer and a reality TV celebrity. Though none of them know each other, they are all linked together by a runaway child and the unspeakable horrors that threaten their lives.
The game's demo introduces you to Zaida, a park ranger refugee from a war that brought tragic events into her life. And this is where we have some of the gameplay that Ghostlight Melancholia presents: you have several places to explore and, as you interact with objects and people, you keep certain words in a kind of glossary. Being in the glossary, you gather two images, referring to the words you have stored. By joining them with certain connective words, in a certain order, you will receive more information about the events, generating other words to be stored. And that's how the game works: what we have here is a mystery game, where you put the pieces together and unravel the events related to the protagonist and the mysterious child. As for the graphics, Ghostlight Melancholia uses a retro style very similar to the game 8-Bit Killer, created by Locomalito, that is, 3D environments but with a 2-bit touch, which makes the game visually monochromatic (black and white) .
