SHUNNED: Find a Way to Survive a Mission Gone Wrong in this Horror Game
Shunned is a short first-person survival and puzzle game with a touch of horror that was produced by Niven Hedinger and published on May 6th of this year on the itch.io platform. In Shunned, you control Sgt. Allen, who is on a mission in Egypt. During a flight at night, your helicopter crashes and you wake up in a desert, next to a tent and some military vehicles, in front of a strange monument. Upon arriving there, you realize that the tent did not belong to your platoon, which raises suspicions about your mission. However, after a strange situation, you find yourself trapped in a cage, and now you try to find a way to escape.
In terms of graphics and visuals, Shunned is well made for the limitations on Hedinger's part, if we compare it to his previous works like Mote and the recent Ascendance, even more taking into account that, according to the developer, Shunned was made in about 3 weeks. The gameplay is quite simple: the game has a simulation touch, but with a focus on puzzle. The combat, which bears some reminiscences of an FPS game, was lacking, in my opinion. I don't know if it's a problem with the PC or the game, but unfortunately I couldn't destroy the zombies with the Ankh, even shooting at them. Perhaps an energy bar to show the decrease while hitting the monsters would be something interesting to put in here.
