SUNNY CUP 2022: Drift Your Way Through the Mountain Touges in this Racing Game
Sunny Cup 2022 is a third-person racing game being produced by Lunar Activities and currently in the development stage, however a demo version of the game was published on March 19th of this year, and is available on the itch.io platform. Sunny Cup 2022 doesn't have a definitive storyline, however, from what little we've seen in the demo, you're a novice drift runner and, to be the best in Japan (it seems the game takes place there), you're taught by an owner of a fast car (which looks a lot like the Panda Trueno from Initial D) and former local racer. Your objective is to race, beat your opponents, earn money and parts to build your cars.
As mentioned above, the game uses a third-person view, and the races focus on highly competitive mechanics. As the game is themed around drift racing (there is no doubt that the game has a strong influence from the anime and manga Initial D), which is precisely why Sunny Cup 2022 presents a certain level of challenge, as you need to master both brake and accelerator in certain corners at the right time to make a perfect drift, otherwise you end up falling off the track.
In terms of graphics, the game has a very beautiful look, with low resolution textures and some serrated polygons, with strong inspiration from PSX games, especially those that were released at the end of Sony's 32-bit console. The game also has local multiplayer and online leaderboards (it's probably just a matter of time before they add online multiplayer).
