TERMINUS: Explore a Surreal Train and Find Your Luggage so You Can Return Home in this VN Game
Terminus is a short indie first-person exploration and visual novel game being produced by elli_rllm (and contributors) and currently in the development stage. However, a prototype version was published on February 24th this year. At Terminus, you find yourself on a surreal train on its way back to Berlin. However, you are stopped by the ticket man, only to discover that your luggage, where your ticket is kept, has simply disappeared. From there, you explore the entire train, meeting the people who are there and finding out more not only about them, but also about yourself and why you are there.
Terminus was created, according to its developers, as a Bachelor Project at the University of Applied Sciences, and explores themes such as liminality and coming off age. In addition, he explores more sensitive events such as car accidents, depression and suicidal ideation. You get to know each character, and you select the different options that appear during the conversation, to understand the story of each one. In terms of graphics and visuals, the game is well produced. The surrealism in the wagons is impressive: you explore the most varied types of wagons, including even returning the wagon to where you were before, because something always changes in it.
As said before, the game is in development, and it will be interesting to see how the game will fare in the final version, as it has a very interesting and deep plot. In the meantime, check out the Terminus gameplay and, if you're interested, download the prototype, which is available on the itch.io platform. Just click on the respective links below.
