THE TELL-TALE HEART: Escape from the Mansion of an Old Man you Murdered while Facing Your Paranoia

The Tell-Tale Heart: The Game is a short indie horror adventure game that was produced by niffirgGames and published on January 19th of this year on the itch.io platform. The game is based on the famous eponymous short story by the famous writer Edgar Allan Poe and the story is told from the point of view of the narrator, who suffers from some mental delusion and ends up killing an old man, who lived with him in a house. After the crime, he receives a visit from two police officers, who search the house and thus create an atmosphere of anxiety and tension on the part of the narrator of the story. In the game, you control the same narrator who, after killing the old man, must find a way to escape the strange steps that run throughout the house.

The game itself is quite simple, both in gameplay and graphics. According to gamedev, the game was produced in a single week, just as a form of an English project, probably as a fun and didactic way of learning the language, I believe. The visual adopted a pixelated style, which is nice. However, in my opinion, the gameplay was a little lacking: I'm not referring to the issue of commands, but the dynamics of the game itself, since it's a game that has a horror atmosphere, and unfortunately after you realize how it works , no longer scares. It would have been interesting if there was a real threat.

I'll explain: you spend all your time running trying to escape the footsteps (or beats), but you get to a situation where the only thing that happens is the flashlight flashing and the footsteps getting stronger and stronger. It would be interesting if the developer added the police officers to corner the player in case he didn't hide properly or took a wrong path and that would lead to more steps towards him, it would be very interesting and would certainly increase the player's tension more.
