VHS, 1986: A Short Horror Game About VHS Tapes You Shouldn't be Watching

VHS, 1986 is an indie puzzle and point & click game produced by papercookies and ViktorRKraus and published on April 13, 2020, and updated on December 13 of the same year, on the indie gaming platform "itch.io". In the game, you find yourself in the basement of your house, in front of a TV. You received from your friend a box containing some VHS tapes and a strange poster with a puzzle you are trying to solve. All of a sudden you get a call from him asking him to hand over four tapes with notes in addition to the poster, as he says the tapes belong to a stranger Dutch and apparently he's willing to use unhelpful methods to get them back.

The game was produced for a game jam hosted by the famous Haunted PS1 community last year, Wretched Weekend 1. VHS, 1986 is nothing but a point & click with elements of puzzle and psychological horror. Your job here is to unravel the mystery of the poster through the signs you find when you play four VHS tapes in order. The story takes place in-game, through the phone calls it receives.

In terms of graphics, the game features a look that simulates the aesthetics of other PSX games, but with a sort of filter that reduces aliasing. The gameplay of VHS, 1986 is quite simple and is completely focused on using the mouse to perform all actions. The game is very short and can be completed in a few minutes.
